Zion News

It's Time For Another Book Selection . . . For May, we have chosen, "The Red Tent," by Anita Diamant.  We will be meeting on Thursday, May 22, at 7:00 p.m.  at Rev Fortenbaugh's.  Please bring your calendars to this meeting, so that we can plan ahead for the summer months (not sure if we're taking off for the summer, etc.).  It looks like at some point in the future, we will be reading, "Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith," by Anne Lamott, so you may want to go ahead and purchase/reserve this book.

Pancake Breakfast:  Come hungry to church on June 8; we’ll be having a pancake breakfast in Fellowship Hall immediately following worship service.  While reservations are not required, we’ll have a sign-up sheet on the credenza, to get a general count.  Questions?  Hoping to help in the kitchen?  Have an extra electric griddle?  See Mandy Hartzel.  The floor will be open for discussion about Zion’s relationship with OCWM in the past, present, and future of our church.

May 11, 2008

Preached at Zion UCC, Arendtsville PA by Rev. Kim Blocher

We live in a “post-everything” world.  For example, Since September 11 2001 we have been told we are living in post-9/11 world.   Cultural observers have been using the term post-modernism for over two decades.  Economists tell us that we are in a post-industrial world where more services than goods are produced.  This week I picked up my Newsweek to read that we are living in post-American world.

Ilda Will Be Finished Serving The Nursery as of May 25.  We have appreciated her service over the past year and wish her well.  During June, July and August, a nursery attendant will not be available.  Should a special occasion arise for a Sunday where an attendant is required, please contact the church office with the request.  We will resume nursery coverage in the fall.  Look for a sign up clipboard as the summer winds down so that you can help provide this valuable service for our youth!!

SermonsIn the book of Genesis, God created the heavens and the earth; He created the sun and the moon and stars; He created the waters of the oceans and the land.  On that land, He created vegetation and trees bearing fruit.  He filled the water and the land with living creatures, fish of the sea, and birds of the air.  And He said all of this was good.
